HD200 slow when connected to server

Hi,

I finally got an HD200 and I am experiencing extremely slow performance when connected to the server. Menus crawl never mind playing video. I have it on a wireless N network using an adapter the previous owner had used. It seems to connect ok. I would expect that perhaps video playback would be choppy but not the menus themselves to be so sluggish.

I am currently at firmware 20100909 0

The server is running on a athlon x-2 3800 cpu, 2GB memory, 2 TB of storage. It runs sage very nicely.

I can connect to the server and navigate with place shifter no problem.

edit: I also did a complete reset. The network set itself up a little better but the thing is still wonky.

Any troubleshooting suggestions to start?

Hooked the server and the HD200 to a spare router directly and the lag issue went away. Clearly my wireless was not up to snuff although I was surprised it was so severe. At least I know what to work on

Fixed

The solution...

I took an old 300mbs wireless N router I had lying around and put DD-WRT on it. I then set it up in "client bridged" mode. I plugged my HD200 into that and put the server in the basement on the "master" router. This seems to work well and has solved the issues I was experiencing with menu and streaming performance.

As a bonus a few legacy Wireless-G things were also put on the bridge removing the last of my legacy mixed mode devices from every day use. The best part was that it was sort of free.

Chris
