Thumbs up My Transition from Cable

Alright... I have done it! I cut the cable cord about 3 weeks ago.. so far it has been great, and here is why:

I put an antenna on the roof and fed the cord to my sage server (I bought a $100 antenna from MicroCenter and it has been flawless in the beating sun, driving snow, and crazy cold of Denver). I mounted it on the roof with a power inserter, about 100 ft down from the roof and into the furnace room where my server rack is.

I seriously de-cluttered my server and de-complexed my setup by taking out three cable boxes, the USB-UIRT and its associated configuration and lineup, and reduced my cord count from about 15 to 3. I just bought some high grade splitters.

I now get HD for free. Can still record 3 channels at once and the channels change much faster. I can pull about 25 channels over the antenna, about 10 are worth it...

I got 2 Chromecast and anything we are missing from the antenna we now cover through things like hulu plus. Don't really need DVR for on demand shows. The WAF is high on this as she can just use her phone (simple Motorola M) and cast to either the main tv room or the kitchen.

I reduced my bill from about $140 to $50... the $39 is for internet and about $11 or something for hulu.

stay away from season passes; after 18 months wifey ended up with 3-4, then comcast offered us a deal that was only $10/month more than season pass + HuluPlus. Now we're back on it. At least we don't have to deal with shows expiring on HuluPlus, that sucked.
