MKV PGS subtitles...
I'm trying to get SBS 3D rips to play on the HD300.
The video plays fine.. but I can't get the captions to come up. The subtitles show up fine on VLC when I play it.. Does Sage support PGS subtitles on MKV? Thanks, jim P.S. How do you do an "AND" search in the search function on this forum??? |

Not sure if I understand your question 100% but my experience with Bluray rips to MKV is that SageTV will not automatically play forced subtitles. So when I rip a movie I copy all English subtitle tracks (the regular subtitles and the forced (usually the first subtitle track)). When watching a movie and you realize forced subtitles should be on you need to then enable the track under subtitle language - the contextual subtitles will then work.
Not every movie has forced subtitles and they don't always work. For example, forced subtitles (when they are turned on) works fine for me in Angels & Demons but they don't work for me in a foreign film that has a mix of Dutch and English (I have to use regular subtitles for the entire film). So my understanding is, SageTV does not support automatically showing forced subtitles, however, it does support the file if you turn it on when watching the show.

Watching a file with subs in VLC is successful. Watching the same file on a SageTV extender ... the subs get out of sync with the video it seems (mkv).

Yup - been one of my biggest issues with SageTV & mkv/blu-ray rips with PGS Subtitles for a long time... it gets out of sync, you have to disable subtitles, re-enable them before the scene for them to show up correctly.. Otherwise they always show up before the correct scene.
These same files play perfect with Plex Home Theater client, Plex for Roku, Plex for Android, etc. One of the reasons I'm leaving sageTV.. Sad day - D2G
