If Tablo could do QAM then I'd be taking a real serious look. I live far enough out that cable is the best way to get local channels, but I don't want to rent any cable boxes.

They are a CA based company and apparently QAM doesn't exist up there. They have said its not out of question but they don't have it on the roadmap quite yet

So far, in my opinion, there hasn't been a single viable alternative.

Like I said if Tablo can accept inputs from other source like STB via hdmi or component then I will be checking it out closely

I believe many users here will show same interest in such DVR that are capable of using external multiple tuners.

Reason I have to use STB because. I and my family are Deaf and we need closed captioning so DirectTV STB allow us to enable closed captioning which get recorded on top of the show itself so it always on and playable on any players.

This way we don't need to find a player that support closed captioning because it already recorded imbedded into the video itself.

Many of us know how to overcome the hdmi restriction so we could record via hdmi so that not really an issue for us but to find an alternative DVR capable of recording from hdmi itself and also to be able playback live tv.

CC is in the works. I fully understand this solution only fits the bill (no pun intended) for some. It will never support outside sources like STB in my opinion. That's just not the market they are after. Having a STB or whatever isn't cutting the cord. They are after that market only at this time.

I've only been using Sage with two silicon dust HD Homeruns and OTA is all I need. I currently switch back and forth inputs between a Roku for Plex, Netflix and Amazon and my HD100. This looks like a good option for me to lose the HD100 and be able to get everything including live and recorded TV through just the Roku.... Just preordered the 4 tuner version. If they eventually allow recording to NAS instead of external USB, that would be even better. Thanks for posting about this, I hadn't heard about Tablo.

Youre Welcome. My house has also been strictly OTA for many years and I like you was tired of switching boxes amongst other things. Anyways check out the forums community.TabloTV.com. good stuff over there. It reminds me of SageTV forum back in the day. Many people helping each other out, making the product better. Staff involved in convo, etx.

We have been very happy with Tablo and I also preordered the quad tuner. Stoked! :-)

I am in a similar situation and another option you might want to consider is the XBOX 360 with WMC (assuming your Sage server is already set up with Windows). Next month they are finally removing the XBOX Gold account requirement so you will be able to use Netflix, Amazon, etc. on the 360 with no additional fee.

Pix64 I saw you were working with Tablo on the plex channel and that they were considering an xbmc addon at one point. Just curious if they are still looking into the xbmc route.

Pix64, I'm also interested to see how things are looking for the Plex channel. I know its still early stages, but be sure to post some videos when you can. Mainly interested to see how fluid it will run.

I have not hear any mention of it, but it is a pretty flexible platform that they are continuing to expand... right now only OTA.
