Sage Client - whats proper way to stop watching a program currently being recorded?

I'm trying out SageTV client. My sage server was recording an episode of something. I chose to view it using Sage Client, then realized it was still being recorded so I decided to just watch it later instead (didn't want to catch up to live after skipping commercials). I selected close file (which is how I usually stop watching stuff with the client if I don't get to the end). I went back later to watch it for real and it was completely gone, as in deleted. Is close file supposed to do that on the client?

If I just go back to the main menu, I see the video still playing in the upper right corner, so I'm not sure if its correct to just to do that and then sleep or pick something else?

Whats the 'official' way of doing what I wanted to do?

If live TV happens to be something that is scheduled to record, I would simply put the client to sleep, or else go watch some other prerecorded show -- either of those will cancel live TV mode anyway, w/o stopping a scheduled recording.

Close file will end the recording.

close file/stop should not delete or stop your recordings

Interesting... I guess you are right. I thought it did the last time I tried it, but it didn't stop the scheduled recording just now. I must have only tried it with live TV. Sorry for the incorrect info! I'm not sure why it would have been deleted then.

Hm... well if anyone finds a recording of Celebrity Poker Challenge laying around, let me know, mine seems to have wandered off.

Did you by any chance start to watch it at the end? Maybe it was set to watched....

if you start watching a show in the middle of a show
the show will start at the beginning
and then you would still have to watch the whole thing for it to be set as watched

have you even checked the harddrive to see if it is there ?

Well it was still recording so I couldn't have gone completely to the end. I might have advanced it up to the point where it caught up to live, although I don't really remember now. In either case, even if it did mark it as watched, I didn't expect it to delete it. I'm still new at this though - don't watched shows still sit around until you manually delete them?

And yeah, I looked in the directory to see if the file was still there, but it was gone too. I know I didn't just imagine it either.

no they will be delete as soon as sage needs space
they are the first to go

do not set things to watched unless you have watched them and want sage to delete them when it needs space

read through the FAQs for help on alot of the ideas of Sage

also you can set a favorite to manual delete but that is the only way that sage will not eventually delete a show

I was told a while back that SageTV will NEVER automatically delete a manual recording, so that's what I put in the FAQ about that.

I watch that show as well. Unfortunately I deleted it after watching and have no easy way to recover it, but I checked the guide and Bravo is running the episodes constantly so you should not have a problem getting it again.

Beau
