It has drifited off real time by about 5 seconds.

How are you determining that it's off "real" time?

Sage just runs of your system clock so it's probably either the fact that Sage defaults to syncing your system clock to the Sage servers, or that your system's clock is not accurate.

I am not using sage to change channels, yet.

When I push the button for my epg, it normally takes 2 seconds to appear.
This time has been increasing. I push the button, and it takes 6 seconds to appear.

This means to me that either someone has pushed pause (which they havent) or it is somehow drifiting.

Oh, you mean playback is slightly behind live. Basically, playback and recording are independent of each other, so it sounds like playback is ever so slightly slower than the live feed. The playback speed is based on the "Reference Clock" in the directshow graph:

Quote:
from the Reclock readme
The default reference clock in DirectShow is provided by the Microsoft sound renderer.
Now, I don't mean to pick or anything, but if you aren't using the Sage EPG, why are you using it? Sage is largely crippled w/o programming data (as are most all PVRs).

The quote isn't from this thread, it's from the Reclock readme file, about how/where the clock for playback is derived for directshow playback (which Sage uses).

I remembered when I had those two or three days of HELL
I went through the same thing as you trying to use the EPG from the cable/DSS box and it was stupidly ridiculous
the time it took to look through the guide was awful
I would have to hit the page down button almost immediately after hitting it the first time just so I was not spending ten minutes looking through the guide
and when ever you time time shifted you would have to skip foward to current time to use the guide again
it was awful

I told you when you did this to set up a guide for sage
and find a channel that would not have shows that ended
that way you could at least use sage's guide and then change to the channel with the cable box remote
although this makes it impossible to record anything it would make liveTV viewing much easier and less stressful

but how you have it now you cannot record anything easily or timeshift and use the guise easily

when I explained this in the other post
I told you that you would at least have the sage guide for a reason

serioously put the guide data back in and add some funky paid programming/ sunday ticket/ TV Guide channel whatever you need that does not have breaks in the shows (it is a 24/7 show on the channel)
and set sage to it
then you have a guide with sage and just change channels with the cable box remote
but you will still need to skip foward to current time to change channels but you have to do this now

I know this is a crappy workaround but it is better than spending 10 to 15 minutes looking through the cable box guide
no matter if sage is getting 5 seconds off every hour or not

Here is why I am using sage with out an epg:

Pause
Skip adverts
amaze and enthral and friends
Understand what I am doing
Not leave toys un-used in boxes until all toys are present and correct
Figure out how the $%~@ to use XMLTV

All of the few channels I watch are stored on my STB favorites, so its just one button to search through them.
I have set sage to no epg, so I am now not having the programme ending problems.

As for the drift, I didnt know if it was one of those things, or a symptom of a more serious problem.

I understand what you are saying about the epg.

I have got it to work by NOT HAVING ONE (I think you even mentioned this to me).

My Sage life IS FINE AND DANDY.

I can get over this problem by pressing skip a couple of times, and I sync back to real time.

I was just interested if other people might have had this problem.

sorry did not see you are in England
but basically set your self up xmltv so you do not have to use the cable box guide

I wish I would have seen that in the other thread

Not at all. There is a huge difference: It signifies to kny3twalker that you don't have access to the built-in epg. NJ is still considered part of the US, so we have access to the internal SageTV-downloaded EPG from Zap2It.
