unRAID private shares & SageTV Service

Hi,

I run Sage in service mode and specify a user name and password (ie NOT using Local System).

In unRAID for this private share I specify this user has read/write access.

From Windows on my Sage server I can access this user share fine, but from within Sage either ran locally on the server or via an extender when I try and access the share I get "Invalid directory".

Sage can access the data however as I manually added "//TOWER/Films" which is the share in question and it added and plays back my films fine...

But I want to use the File Browser in Sage and this hits the same issue and I cannot find a way around it.

Does anyone have the same config working OK?

Thanks.

I was never able to get UNC browsing to work in Sage. As you saw, otherwise, UNC paths actually work just fine.

It works if you run just Sagetv and not the service I could never get it to browse using the service.

OK, not just me then, thanks for the replies.

I turned on samba debugging in unRAID and it appears the problem is Sage in these instances does not use the user account you configured it with so it effectively comes in as user 'guest' which of course as it's a private share is correctly failed by unRAID:-

Code:
[2015/03/23 01:26:09.582914, 3] ../source3/auth/auth.c:177(auth_check_ntlm_password)
check_ntlm_password: Checking password for unmapped user []\[]@[JCIFS1_31_3F] with the new password interface
[2015/03/23 01:26:09.582951, 3] ../source3/auth/auth.c:180(auth_check_ntlm_password)
  check_ntlm_password: mapped user is: [TOWER]\[]@[JCIFS1_31_3F]
[2015/03/23 01:26:09.583001, 3] ../source3/auth/auth.c:226(auth_check_ntlm_password)
check_ntlm_password: guest authentication for user [] succeeded
[2015/03/23 01:26:09.583039, 5] ../source3/auth/auth.c:278(auth_check_ntlm_password)
  check_ntlm_password:  guest authentication for user [] -> [] -> [nobody] succeeded
[2015/03/23 01:26:17.339637, 1] ../source3/smbd/service.c:550(make_connection_snum)
  create_connection_session_info failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED

Sounds like a bug. Maybe this is something that could be fixed once Sage goes Open Source?

Browsing works for me from my extenders. At least some of the time anyway. When you run SageTV GUI is the user you logged in as to the windows desktop the same as the user you assigned to the service. If not then try logging into the Windows desktop as that user then launch the SageTV GUI and try it.

Yes I logon to the desktop as the user assigned to the service, fire up the Sage GUI on there and it hits the same issue

It's been a bug for an extremely long time. I'm sure if you search the forums, there are numerous posts about this. I know I made at least one inquiry many years ago.

I ran into this too with my synology NAS. I just "fixed" it today by enabling guest access on the one share that SageTV uses.

I was getting very frustrating have to "touch" the file system on the logged in user every time I wanted Sage to play something from the NAS. Once I changed to allowing guest access on the share, everything seem to be working fine now.

I did a quick search for Open Source but didn't find anything that mentions SageTV would become open source. Is there an indication that this will happen?

Never mind. My search was of this subforum. I didn't notice the entire subforum dedicated to Open Source.
