downloading private messages

My 'private messages' part of this web forum is full. I assumed it would be simple to download the messages (to my ipad, for example) so I can clean up the inbox/sent items messages.
Can't figure it out - doh
can anyone help?
thanks

You could open each message and then "Sage Page as" in Firefox (similar in other browsers) as the brute force method since it would give you a file and possibly a directory for each message.

yeah, I saw that, and couldn't make heads or tails out of it. I chose "txt", and it indeed did produce a txt version of the selected message on my ipad, but saving it stumped me. I'll have another go
