Changing it in the configuration for Youtube dl in the Plugins config doesn't make it download to a different directory.
Can I get a hint on where to look for this path?

Go to the YouTube menu and press options. "Temporary Files Options" will control where files are stored if you are watching videos. "Download options" will control where recorded videos are stored.

@malfunction - You may not be going crazy.

@tmiranda - I've just checked, and I have been seeing the same thing for a while now. It's not a showstopper, but merely a puzzler. In Youtube, I change the Temporary Storage location to a folder. Right now it is set to F:\imports\onlinetemp. No matter what directory I put in, the file always ends up in d:\UsefulDownloads\Download. The only thing I can see that may be related is that d:\UsefulDownloads is the first import directory listed in the Media Center Import Directories list in SageTV's configuration.

OK, I'll take a look at it this week. Haven't had any time to do anything sage related for a while

IIRC It will use the first import directory if it thinks the temp folder specified is invalid.

I looked at the code and I can't see why this should be happening. Can you (or Malfunction) please do the following:

Tell me what the value is for the property "online_video/temp_file_path".
Try to watch something (using progressive playback) and send me the logfile.

Download options is what I want to change, but it won't change. It always goes to the same directory.

You're not. For some reason it took three or four tries to send the files to a directory of my choosing. No idea why, but it seems to be working now. Try creating a new directory that didn't exist before, and then save to that one. And, downloads don't always happen. I'm still working that one out.

I've had it where the file downloads and I get a SageTV playback error, maybe a codec issue. I'll try it a few more times tonight and see if I can get SageTV to look in another directory. I wonder if the software just prefers to use the first hard drive it finds, i.e. F: over H:

i've been able to create a workable directory on three, different drives if that helps.

It has to be an artifact from a previous install.

I installed it on V7. The weird behavior is on V9. I had a better look at it last night and what happens is the system doesn't want to copy the file to that directory and just gives up on it. If I change back to the directory that the plugin forced, it works fine.

Sounds like a permissions issue. Are you running a sage as a service? Is the service configured to run as a user? Does that user have permission to write to the folder you are trying to write to?

I have the server running, but this is from the program. It's configured so everyone can run it. If I were having permissions issues, I'd be running into many more problems. It's downloading fine right now, but it's sending them to a different directory than I specified in the setup. It sends to J:\Divx\Download even though I configured K:\YouTube\Download.

I think I've solved this mystery. It isn't a problem in the coding of the plugin. It's my computer running short of memory and balking. I noticed today that the download path had set itself right after more than 24 hours of not messing with it.

After this, while moving a very large YouTube file, Windows told me I should close SageTV because I'm running out of memory. I had a look at my virtual memory settings, and it was really wrong. I must have bollixed it up when I installed the SSD.

It also explains some of the unusual spinning cursors I've been seeing from time to time.

I guess I'll have to find something else to tinker with tomorrow.

The searches... long list of previous search strings, but the latest one pops into the search box. Is this how it's supposed to work?
