Netflix

After a quick forum search, I'm not finding exactly what I seem to recall seeing previously. Can Plex be used to get Netflix into Sage in some way, say, to both select a Netflix video and watch it on an extender?

PlayOn can...

I use PlayON/PlayLater to record to MP4 then import those MP4s into SageTV for viewing. I have ~3000 TVSeries and Movie recordings done that way currently.

I was hoping to find something that my parents would be able to grasp. Having more than one device to turn on along with the TV seems to be a challenge.

You can search and navigate through PlayOn from within SageTV. Nothing extra to turn on, no sources to switch, etc.

Quite often they have promotions at the PlayOn site. For example, the promo I signed up for was PlayOn/PlayLater for $40, LIFETIME.
There may be coupons hiding on the web as well

Definitely. Don't sign up for monthly. The run promos for lifetime memberships seemingly every other month.

Between this post and your previous admissions of how much hard drive space you have filled, Bob, I think you are officially Sage's number one hoarder.

This has been brought up before around here and that ~3k number seems kinda low for the "number one hoarder". I say that because I swear there were people with significantly more than I had at the time and I just looked and I'm well over 3k at this point (closer to 5k). Did I really add that much? If so, it's most likely due to all the entire TV shows I've purchased over the past few years. Just my collection of Stargate and Star Trek is close to 700 episodes and that doesn't even include every ST series. Yet, I "only" have ~26TB of space with quite a bit still empty.

I think he was referring to the fact that I have about 200TB of drive space with ~150TB used. However I didn't look at the correct numbers when I quoted ~3000. That was for all media files in the MP4 folder which contains more than just Playon/Playlater recordings. True count would be 2000+ when looking in SageTV. The extra ~1000 MP4s I made from pre-HDPVR SD recordings and I compressed them to MP4s to save space. The PlayOn recordings (which are mostly series recordings) take up ~3-4TB. I have about 60TB of HDPVR recordings on my largest unRAID server. I just recently moved all the recordings off 3 of my 4 SageTV servers to my unRAID servers they were getting full around 2TB of space left on each before the move. I now have 32TB of recordings space on them. The 4th still has 5TB of recording space left of it's 15 total.

You definitely have the most storage; that's for certain.

PlayOn has a $49.99 deal right now for the whole package, including the new "adskipper" (which I have not investigated yet, but which makes the fact they have legal contracts with all these networks even more dumbfounding).

I see that PlayOn and Playlater are basically sold by the same entity. Do we have the same problem with Playon as we do with Playlater, where we can never get anything but stereo audio via that interface?

one thing to remember about PlayOn, at least until web sites start supporting it, is you'll never get 5.1 surround from a PlayOn source. Stereo only.

Correct. The only way you get 5.1 audio is if you playback from netflix on a device like a TV or a BluRay player. Netflix only sends stereo to browsers on a PC and that is what PlayOn/PlayLater do when recording from Netflix - there is a hidden browser window that is used to record from.

You can use the "netflix-->Chromecast-->HDMI splitter-->HDPVR/Colossus-->SageTV" workaround that was described in the hardware subforum a year or two ago.

At least I think that would work, I haven't done it myself.

Tried that with an Amazon FireTV but it didn't work. Didn't investigate too much but recording was corrupted and wouldn't playback. Could be my splitter doesn't strip the HDCP correctly - don't know and haven't investigated further.

I'm looking to buy PlayLater but I'm not sure how it works from inside the extender... Would I be able to search/browse and then record from my Netflix account from within the Sage GUI?

And as far as hoarder king goes:
Currently up to 27,698 episodes & movies

Am I at least in the conversation?

And for those with Very Large imported video collections... Do you have any issues with the imported videos losing a significant amount of videos every now and then forcing you to do a rescan?
