It's great to see the Sage community spring back to life
Jeff only released the OS version two days ago and these forums are really hopping already. It is great to see lots of names that haven't been around for a while - welcome back folks.
I am not a developer but I am willing to help out in any way I can. I am looking forward to great things from the community!

Yeah, it's amazing how much more activity there has been over the last couple of days compared to the previous few weeks.

I'm really delighted to see so many smart folks discussing the product and how it should move forward. I'm not a programmer, but i enjoy the core/plugin discussion and can definitely see that we'll have a great piece of software in the future.
Also, SageTv forums have returned to my daily round of places I visit online. I had drifted away since the conversation was dwindling, but it's great to see things picking back up again.

So far 19 people have forked the project. That's more than I would have expected after just a few days. It's great to see the interest in the project, even if only a fraction of those contribute code.

Well I know for me, I never stopped visiting - just stopped posting. I moved on (Moved on? was forced into?) Windows Media Center when my extenders died. and slowly there was less for me to contribute. I'll certainly throw my hat into the "i can't code, but I can test and cheer on" And it's fantastic to see so many of the folks that helped make sage so fantastic. Someone go find Nielm

It is interesting. It seems there are folks even coming in from other products. Are they basically coming to continue development on Sage, or are they looking to grab what they can from the [now free] Sage software and take that back to some other product?

I don't think he disappeared off the earth, in fact, I think he works (or at least worked) at google. He just wasn't involved in the sage community anymore.

As a long, long time lurker, and ever so minor a SageTV community participant, I for one got a sparkle in my eye at seeing "nielm" cross my screen.
A personal outcome of visiting a board like this on a often daily basis is that I've built up fictional caricature of many of the names and avatars I see. I even forced my 2 black cats to huddle up together for a picture to try and "fit in" without ever really understanding why! nielm has always held a kind of a "noble virtuous founding father" character in my head who made all this stuff happen (e.g. cool plugins, etc.). I realize this is an odd post to make, and I should probably not share my other personificaitons of you good, good people! Thanks for all you've done. Being able to experience shows and movies with my kids and family through the work and add-ons you've made (or simply telling me how to do firewire tuning, etc.) is certainly a sliver of my life that I appreciate. |

@Tomahawk - I don't think you are the only one. With the Open Source registrations it is interesting to learn the real names of some of the participants since more folks actually use their real names on github.
