If i set an amount to use in a dir does it handle running out of space?

Does SageTV when set to use say 50gig on a drive.. handle it if it runs out much earlier... cause i reinstalled Sage last night all my unwatched shows got moved to errant.. i've not watched most of them so kept them... I set my size up to 50 even tho there wasn't that much left... i assumed Sage would cope... since then i've had this problem with sage not working (see other post) wondered if it was related somehow..

The reason your shows went to errant is because you reinstalled SageTV. You must have deleted your database files that associate the shows in the EPG to the actual files so it didn't recognize them.

Next time you reinstall, make sure you backup your sage.properties, wiz.bin and wiz.bak files and that won't happen.

I have problems getting XMLTV plugin to work sometimes... such that i have to delete the properties file (not sure about the wiz) for it to find the plugin, and not the channels.. this happened which is why i deleted them...

so this situation is handled... running out of space before reaching a drives size quota?!? i expected it would be but thought its possible its the kind of thing that could of been missed/not tested

Sage will never run out of space because it will begin to delete the oldest or watched files first. It's been tested and used extensively. If you filled up your hard drive with all manual recordings, SageTV would not record again until you free up some space.

In future versions we will begin to introduce delete options for favorites recordings so you can customize which shows get deleted first.

ok cool... manual recordings never get deleted.. interesting that may explain some of the anomolies i've seen in shows sticking around or not..

I just wondered if Sage's protection against being full was only on when you said to use the whole space of a drive.. i never doubted it wouldn't be in its just a fatal reinstall crash occcured straight afterwards..

This is weird then, i havent setup any manual recordings for 3 days. suddenly this afternoon, sage locks up on me, hard drive spinning likea nut, computer not responding.

I reboot and get onto the machine and my rule of leaving 5GB free was adhered to fine, but there was a load of files in the video folder, live TV programs, fair enough. BUt surely sage should have deleted some of them since i didnt tell it to record them (I do not use intelligent recording).

So when i clicked on liveTV again, nothing happened. I quit sage, deleted the video files manually and it started up again fine.

any ideas?
