Playon V4
Sorry if this is old news...I just downloaded the latest Playon. Looks like they've combined Playon/Playlater/Playmark into a single package and added scheduling (called subscriptions), so it will record your favorites like a DVR. The new interface is much cleaner and prettier. There's a new license fee as well. I have to stress that streaming to the Sage plugin failed until I upgraded to this latest playon license. It appears the earlier HD and Playlater licenses don't carry over to this upgrade. Having upgraded my license it still looks to be 720 x 480. I was hoping it might allow 720p into Sage with this upgrade. I'll have to try some different content. Has anybody else tried this version yet?
Again, upgrading to Playon V4 killed my ability to stream to the Sage plugin until I upgraded my license also. .

I may have jumped the gun on upgrading... These instructions are given at the bottom of the support page:
Did you purchase PlayOn and/or PlayLater prior to November 2013 and receive a license key in the format of xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx? If so, you'll need to create an account and download PlayOn. Once you have installed PlayOn, log in with your new account, click on My Acount in the upper left, then follow the instructions for importing/registering your license key in the "Have An Existing License Key?" section near the bottom of the screen.

I had an old Playon license and when I pasted my key it enabled everything.
I was expecting it to record in HD now in SageTV but I guess that will come later. |

While I was 'told' by PlayOn support that they were unlocking HD for all clients, they didn't tell me a timeframe for that. In the meantime, if you are on Sage v9, you can spoof that you are XBMC, and it should stream 720p (though I haven't tried PlayOn v4 yet).

I was on the Beta for a couple of weeks before the release and had very few issues. I just checked and I am getting HD. Just randomly grabbed an X-Files episode and Sage showed 720P.
I have a few favorites setup, one of which is pulling Doctor Who from my Amazon account. It is also 720P. But unfortunately it is 2 channel audio. Not sure if or when that might change. |

So does "adskipper" work through the Sage interface with files you set to automatically download? I have admittedly not looked into "adskipper" one bit since I saw it was a new feature. How does it work? Are files you download automatically just sent with no commercials in them?

Haven't had a chance to try adskipper yet. I may try it in the next day or two.

I am using V9, by way of the JAR replacement method. Be sure to go into the Playon settings and on the General tab, under Video Performance, click the Maximum video quality dropdown and select HD. Don't leave it on automatic. See if that "fixes" it.

I'm still running V7. Guess I now have a reason to move to V9. Thanks!

Unless you set up the custom user-agent, there's no difference between v7 and v9 as far as PlayOn is concerned.

As far as I know, PlayOn simply puts chapter marks in files for the beginning and end of commercials when PlayOn/PlayLater is set to record the show. That would not in any way affect when sage is streaming from PlayOn directly, but would allow skipping by chapter if you have PlayLater record, and import that recording into sage. I believe at one point I made a quick utility to create .EDL files from those PlayLater recordings, so anything recorded with PlayLater and imported into sage will have proper comskipping. I'll have to check into it to see if i still have that tool, and if it still works with recordings from PlayOn v4.

And actually, I just reverted sage back to the default user agent (Java/x.x.x) and it is still streaming HD, so it should do so for any client - as long as you have PlayOn set to stream HD (which I believe is a setting above Maximum in the new v4 configuration).

Hmmm. I'm going by what Gemstone displays on the screen (720 x 404). Actually today the picture looks better than 480. Is it possible that Gemstone is incorrect? Any other way to confirm it's not 480? .

I use Gemstone and it is showing 720P. If you go to the file in Windows and right click it, then click the Details tab, it will give you the details on the file, including the resolution.

I too am going off of Gemstone's display showing 720p, as well as ffmpeg's codec menu showing 1280x720. Again, you have to have PlayOn configured to send HD.
