SageTV Media Extender

I am a long established user of SageTV with several Medai Extenders. Since the acquisition by Google, Media Exrenders have not been sold, so the question is, now that SageTV has become open source, will that open the door to SageTV running on other devices (obvious choice id Google Chromecast)? And will there be new SageTV dedicated media extenders available?

Basically, what is the long term solution to watching / controlling SageTV on TVs (as opposed to PCs, Tablets etc)?

Why do you think Google Chromecast is an obvious choice?

I would actually think something like a Fire TV (with hacks), Roku, or the new Apple TV w/app support would make more sense. Google Chromecast, as far as I know, needs another device to initiate the streaming. So for STV to support Chromecast you would need to use a phone, tablet, or computer to select your content and cast it to the Chromecast. A Roku/AppleTV on the other hand would all you to build a full UI like a HD300 client has.

I'm guessing because the SageTV Open Source project still belongs to Google.

Except Google isn't doing much in regards to implementing code on their own(closest thing they have is the old SageTV programming crew from before they bought Sage), so I don't know why he thinks the community would prioritize Chromecast when other more robust options exist, particularly when it comes to native mpg2 support.

If Google was actually paying people to do implementations, things might be different, but I don't think any such money is being thrown around.

In terms of Chromecast... Chromcast isn't really much of anything, except a screen extender, and you need to have a host device (ie, phone/tablet) that runs the actual program. When a robust Android Client is available, it probably would only take a few lines of code to enable Chromecast support.
