I'm using SPDIF audio. There have also been a couple of occasions where the audio switched to the "Audio described video" stream mid-recording to go along with the halt in recording.

I'll be watching the recording. Everything is fine. It goes to commercial. It comes back from commercial and suddenly there is a guy describing everything that is happening in the show.

The audio switch has only happened a handful of times since early November when I switched from Windows to Linux. I just assumed that the Linux driver was having trouble with the changes in the audio stream when it goes to commercial.

That sounds like a problem with your set top box. There's no way an HDPVR could switch audio streams mid recording. It just takes whatever it is given.
