xbox media center
Wondering if anyone has tried to use the Xbox media center stuff with sage at:

I love the xbox version, although I don't like the idea of storing my music on the xbox hdd. I networked the xbox to my pc which had the music library, but the samba connection lagged with my large library. I was using the xbox as my music jukebox prior to sage 2. The jukebox was very well developed and provides many essential functions that sage does not.
There is a pc port called MediaPortal and is in alpha (might be beta by know). I've had a hard time running the port on my htpc. It claims to support multiple tuners and most of the features sage has. The great thing about both of the projects is that they are open source. It may be a good idea for the sage developers to keep an eye on this product as it could steal most of us away in some time. ________ Zoloft lawsuit Last edited by meekell; 09-08-2011 at 08:59 AM. |

MediaPortal just started development again. It had been halted and all traces had to be removed becasue dell was suing the developers due to its similarity to the Media Center PC's they sell. All the graphics are available if someone wanted to do a conversion with studio.

Once again I'm in awe of the opensource comunity. That is a very cool looking program and they certianly aren't afraid to set their sites high. I've always loved the XBMP and later the XBMC, but never knew about the Windows port. Very cool.

For now, I think it would be best if Jeff (Frey Tech.) stayed FOCUSED on making SageTV "the best" PVR software available. *AFTER* they achieve that goal, then work on adding other extras for music, FM radio, etc. Me thinks everyone wants/expects too much too fast and Jeff is probably pulling his hair out (if he has any left) by now trying to comply with all the demands. Let's all give Jeff a big round of applause for his efforts, but also try to keep him FOCUSED on completing his work on the first main goal of "the best" PVR program. Other things can be worked in later. After all, Rome was not built in a day and Frey Tech. doesn't have hundreds of programmers to work on things either (like Microsoft does). |

True as far as Jeff goes. He should always be focussed on the PVR core. But this is why Jeff created Studio, to allow these types of features to be added by the user base. Hopefully Studio will be public in some form soon, but I don't want to go into that discussion. It should only be release when it's ready.
Believe me I know how valuable Jeff's time is. ![]() To Quote Sun Tzu: "If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle." This was in the context that my post was made. Mainly for people with Studio access to get some ideas. I have the utmost respect for Jeff and his skills, otherwise I would never give my time to Moderate this board. Few wish to see this company/software succeed as much as I. Rome may not of been built in a day, but it was sacked in a day. ![]()

Far to often these days companies rush things on the market that are not fully tested or are inferior products simply because they wanted to stay ahead (or keep up with) the a competing company. That ends up ruining that companies reputation and losing market share. Sometimes, that one extra feature the other company is adding can end up being the flaw in their software that could swing users over to you own product (even though it doesn't have that extra feature). There's a lot of tough decision calls in the business world, but I think its best to error on the safe side. I think more companies should use this motto: When you are the best, you don't have to worry about the rest ![]() |

Nothing ventured nothing gained.(I had to add another quote/cliche)
This brings us all the way back to the point of my original post... Studio is going to be a good thing. Note this doesn't mean I demanding Jeff release Studio before it's totally finished/stable. In the mean time the people who do have Studio access are doing Frey a huge favor by adding features that many users want. Also they in no way effect the "normal" user base who doesn't want these features. In the end our point of different perspective, seems to come down to the fact that you seem to think I'm asking for Frey(Jeff) to add all of this. I'm simply saying that these features would be great ideas for Studio extentions. Look at what has already been done by private Studio users so far and what they are working on(by themselves and in conjunction with others, ie a possible MVP interface and a MP4 compressor). This whole thread points out why Jeff started out to create Studio. Anyway peace ![]() /justme Last edited by justme; 07-11-2004 at 12:06 AM. |

justme -
I never meant to impy that you (or anyone else for that matter) was trying to force Jeff into adding things. My comments were only based on my observation of various posts in the forum where "the natives" appear to be getting restless. There's just so many "when will", "can this", "will this be" type posts. My point was simply that we should all just let Jeff finish what he is already working. Studio will be a good thing and very likely may allow people to add most (if not all) of the other things people are asking. It doesn't have to happen right now. Studio will be ready when it is ready and not before. However, when Studio does get release it will probably blow the doors of any competing product, so I don't think we really have to worry about what the competition is up to at this point. Peace- ![]() |
