I've done a bunch of recordings and all look good. I did have a small glitch when I first started my first recording after first starting the service yesterday and haven't seen it again. I'll continue to test recordings today.

By small glitch, you mean a second of the recording was lost or SageTV actually reported there was a problem?

I really couldn't find anything particularly broken with this recording. My best guess is SageTV detected it incorrectly. I was able to import it into SageTV and play it back on the Android miniclient and HD300. Sorry I can't really get you any closer to an answer on this one.
On an unrelated note. I was talking with some friends at a get together last night about the local commercials and apparently I'm not the only person to notice that the way they are inserting them isn't even playing nicely with the cable company boxes. There's lots of tearing and stuttering especially on H.264 Comcast. I looked into this a little more when I found an infomercial that looked horrible. I immediately captured the raw video to verify it wasn't something new to fix in OpenDCT and it turned out the video was really just that bad. It was an H.264 720p channel, so I know FiOS was transcoding it (the first time I've discovered this). At any rate, if that was my commercial and I'd be pretty upset with the cable company. I understand that sometimes it's the source content, but I really doubt anyone would submit a 30 minute video that did not playback decently before submitting it to the broadcaster. I don't have a problem with them saving bandwidth, but I do have a problem with them butchering my recordings in the process.

For someone running OpenDCT in the same windows instance as the SageTV service, does OpenDCT have it's own Java heap, or would SageTV and OpenDCT share a single Java heap?

OpenDCT is separate from SageTV and does not run within the SageTV Java Heap ... it has it's own.

Thanks! I especially find the timestamp discontinuity fixes absurd, but an unfortunate necessity. After playing around with different video from various providers, I'm starting to get the more complete picture of why so many need FFmpeg to even allow for even a really good player to be able to playback the video stream.

OpenDCT tried to start the recording and it encountered the errors "avformat_open_input returned error code -1094995529" and it eventually closed the "<name>-0.ts" file (not sure if anything was ever written to it or if it was even created) and then it restarted the stream again successfully using the filename "<name>-1.ts" as expected. But today when I looked closer, there was no "<name>-0.ts" file on the filesystem, only the "<name>-1.ts" file which is the one you downloaded from me. In SageTV under Recordings, I looked at the View Recording Detail screen and for Format it only showed "MPEG2-TS". I don't remember if it showed one filename or two. The following is what Sage logged when I looked at the details today and tried to play the recording. Note the "format=MPEG2-TS 0:00:00 0 kbps []": Code:

a recording, or (2) OpenDCT never actually created the first file which could have confused SageTV, or (3) OpenDCT created the first file and notified SageTV but then deleted it because the stream was never detected properly which also could have confused SageTV. SageTV did detect the event as a halted recording and put a message into the System Messages log but the time only shows 7:00PM.

I also noticed on 0.4.43 a minor issue related to the recent change for repeated log entries. The count and "time" vs "times" output appears to be misformatted:

Since updating to RC8, recordings of Bravo channel are unwatchable. Let me know what you need to troubleshoot this problem. For now I've remapped that channel to record through my HDPVR, so I'm not dead on the water.

Thank you EnterNoEscape for your tireless updates on this project.
Just as an update, for me on my Comcast system, with the majority of channels (excepting major networks still on mpeg) with H264, I haven't had ANY hiccups for a while. As mentioned initially several pages back, the music stations won't play properly for the reasons you already explained, and I will await patiently if you choose to implement channel-dependent consumers in later builds.
