SageTV and 64 bit Java on Windows
Hi,
I was wondering if we are working on 64bit SageTV on windows. I am constantly hitting the Java heap limit on my current system with the heap setting maxed out, and only using 3 clients. Thanks, Josh |

Me too ^10. It would be awesome to be able to run a bunch of extenders and never have to worry about hitting the limit - then there would be no reason to ever shut down the extenders.

I don't believe anyone is actively working on it as we speak. The issue is that java-native programming on windows is a complete mess, so i think everyone is afraid of touching it (not sure there are any devs here that are all that familiar with it to begin with). My thoughts are still that the quickest route to this would be creating a new SageTVRecorder, and stripping all the native code we can out of the basic server package - but I don't even currently have a build environment to try messing with that yet.

All the java-native code should be 64-bit compliant. I basically wrote it that way to plan ahead. All the other bits (DShow filters and their corresponding libraries) are where issues may occur. But all the common code between Windows/Linux should be fine because Linux is working under 64 bits. So overall...this shouldn't be that nasty to do and wouldn't require Java-Native experience to resolve the issues that could come up.
I wonder if there's a checker like lint out there which can scan code to try to find issues with 64 bit compatibility.
