Clients / Extenders

I've noticed there is active development for an Android client, but I wanted to ask what was the consensus of what the client/extender device looks like moving forward? Something like a RPi running client software or ???

I ask because I know of a few people who are currently interested in STV, but there is no current extender alternative other than finding used ones. I don't necessarily find that as a great alternative for someone looking into a new setup today...

How far away do you guys think a new solution is, or is that something that will even be addressed? Thoughts?

Probably any android TV box (nexus, fire tv, shield) and the android miniclient is going to be the best option in the near future. Depending on your sources, it works good enough now.
