OpenDCT: Can I use it?

I see the thread on OpenDCT and I'm wondering if I can use it with my configuration. I see the thread and the discussion about using it with HDHomeRun but I've got an HVR-2250 and HD-PVR (Cablevision SA4250HD). Would I benefit at all if I was able to use this? I'm currently having frequent lock-up issues so I'm looking for any other options.

OpenDCT is for a cable card device like Silcondust HDHomerun Prime.

As to the frequent lock up, is that on the server or is that on the client/extenders? If it is on the client or extenders, then it is probably a network issue. If it is on the server, then it is probably a hard drive issue.

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought OpenDCT had a specific use but wasn't completely sure.

As far as the lockups go...
they mainly happen when I'm watching a program that is also a scheduled recording. If I try to fast forward it will frequently lock up with the spinning wheel. It happens on the server and clients.

IT also works for OTA Silcondust HDHomerun Devices... Including the old devices.

Curious, as support for these are built into SageTV, what are the advantages for using this solution over the built in support?

You can use Tuner pooling ... and share the tuners with other systems. You can have SageTV to force an unlock and take over a tuner that is in use by another system if all tuners are in use... Also I have found that the muxing of the TS files in SageTV to be unreliable on certain channels. You are using the latest FFMPEG to mux the streams instead of the outdated SageTV way of muxing.

Right now I share all my tuners with the HDHomerun DVR ... WMC ...NEXTPVR .. and my test system.

PS.. Remember SageTV does support these tuners but does not check to see if they are in use prior to trying to tune it.... If it is in use you will get an error in the recording... SageTV only knows what tuner it is using will not check if other APPS are viewing TV on that tuner.

What part of your system is locking up? Is it the HD-PVR? If so, what version of HD-PVR driver are you using?

I went thru months of grief with frequent (almost daily) problems with the HD-PVR when using the "latest" driver v1.7.1.30059 (released on 2012-03-25). Reverting to the older v1.5.7.0 driver (dated 2010-06-24) has been rock-solid; it's been up for over a month now.
