2.0.20 SageTV Locks
I am running on an EPIA M1000 (933 Mhz with PVR 350) and Windows XP Pro. System was very reliable with the 2.0.19 release, but since I upgraded to .20 I am getting periodic lockups. Happens when fast forwarding a recorded show. Have I just noticed this and this is a common bug or would you all say it is appearing in the release? XP is still fine, I can VNC in and kill SAGE and restart it... Also, I notice am getting some stutter while watching a DVD and the system starts to record something. Is my system just to wimpy? 933 Mhx via EPIA with 256k RAM PVR 350 encoder (EPIA has hardware decode mpeg).

I think the 350 lockups may be a fairly common problem. see the Calling all Hauppauge 350 users for satisfaction poll thread for more info.

I do not have all the spec's for your specific motherboard, so I'm only gonna make some "generalized" comments here.
First of, there are a few bugs that Jeff is still trying to work out of SageTV along with some bugs related to the PVR-350 (and drivers from Hauppauge). So, there could be problems in that regard. Second, you mention some problems when trying to play a DVD. That would put a larger load on not only the CPU, but also on the motherboard busses between things. Plus, those buss speeds could vary (or be locked at certain speeds) depending on the CPU installed. I'd say, if you have the manual for the motherboard, check what the buss speeds are with the CPU you have. A faster CPU along does not really mean anything. It is a combination of faster speeds for the CPU, the busses, RAM, hard drive controller and drive.... everything needs to be faster to improve performance, not just any one specific thing. And, even then the increases in performance may only be very small. One thing you could try though is to reduce the number of un-needed processes XP is running in the background (the less of that, the better). There is a LOT of information about that at http://www.blackviper.com Sorry if I'm not of much help, but at least giving you somethings to think about. |
