PCIe OTA Network Tuner

Is there any way to use something like a Hauppauge 2250 as a network tuner? I'd like to move SageTV to a VM, but Hyper-V on Win10 doesn't support passthrough of add-in cards. I prefer to use internal cards.

Check out appendix G in the SageTV User's Guide, the network encoding section.

Someone would have to write a network encoder interface that works with it. I don't think anyone has.

The network encoder would have to talk to Sage using it's network encoder protocol, and it would have to talk to the Hauppauge device using whatever interface they make available.

If I understand it correctly, this would require two SageTV server instances. One instance would have the internal tuner card in it, and would be set up as a network encoder, basically a slave to the second server instance. The second server instance would be the main SageTV server, and would communicate with the first server instance. The SageTV server software has all of the communication protocols already built in to it. The two server instances do not have to reside on the same box, and can be physically separated, so long as they can communicate to each other via the network.

Unless I am misunderstanding something...

Thanks, I forgot about this option. That should be perfect.

No, you are correct. I guess I overlooked the obvious - I'm pretty sure the network tuner protocol was created specifically for the case you suggest, and just opened up to handle custom network tuners as a bonus.

Nothing, just a new purchase and I don't have a major reason to retire the 2250. Plus I like internal cards and rack-mountable equipment.
