Anybody running SageTV server and Plex server on the same machine?
I realized that my SageTV server is an old core2 quad system. So its requirements are a bit less than I recalled. Also I'm running a Plex server on another Core2 Duo. So I'm kinda curious now if I could run both of them on a solid Core i5 system? Anybody got this setup?
Any input, whether informed or theoretical is much appreciated! Thanks! |

I have both SageTV server and Plex server running on an i5. I will caveat it with the max connections we have is 2 sage connections (a client and and HD300) and 2 plex clients.

I have both SageTV & Plex running on a C2Q Q8400 just fine. Not sure the speed of your processor but mine is 2.66Ghz and runs both quite well.

I have both programs running on a Quad-Core AMD system that runs Desktop Ubuntu Linux, but I don't access the Plex server remotely. As such, processor speed (for transcoding) is not an issue for my setup, so the Sage and Plex interfaces both perform smoothly ...

My unraid server is a AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core @ 4000 cpu (which is fairly old now) with 24 gigs of memory.. I'm running plex, sagetv, and a few other docker containers on it, and so far it's pretty smooth.

I have Sage and Plex on the same server, as well as a few other things. It's a pretty beefy box, but I imagine anything could be bogged down if you are trying to do something while Plex is transcoding for a remote client. Fortunately that doesn't happen often.
Storage for all media is local to that box on several HDD's, so I/O is generally not an issue. |

running both on a quad Athlon, W7 32 bit with 4gb ram. seems to work, although I rarely hit it with more than one or two simultaneous streaming requests

I'm running Sage Server (v9) and Plex on a box with an AMD Athlon X4 845 and 8GB RAM, and a relatively cheap $50 Asrock motherboard. Running both together has not been an issue.
I just built this server, and I debated going with an i5, but was a little rich for my blood. Figured I have some fun and try the Athlon. It works great, but I rarely stream remotely, and when I do it's one stream @ 720p. |

I also have both on the system and I don't notice that it causes much strain, but Plex isn't used that often. What really causes strain is using more than 3 extenders at the same time due to the 32 bit JVM limitations.

I've found UnRAID+SageTV,Plex,LMS Dockers to be an awesome setup, and it's 64-bit, so I've got a 2GB heap now. Excellent!

Even though I've not yet gotten the full unRAID experience since all our recordings and other media are still on a Windows machine. I'm waiting on the delivery of a parity drive to let me start moving stuff over. Even still, it's been a better experience. I'm sure some of that is owed to the hardware it's running on though. Still, it allows a level of integration I could never have with just a single Windows system.

SageTV Docker - a packaged sagetv server that can be plugged into unRAID Plex Docker - a packaged plex media server that can be plugged into unRAID LMS Docker - a packaged logitech media server that can be plugged into unRAID I also have a few other general purpose virtual machines running on the unRAID server: - A windows machine that runs Hero Lab to use remotely. - A windows machine that runs openDCT (simply because I haven't made a docker for it yet, and it was the quickest to set up for now). - A linux machine used for development tasks
