New 'History' Page on GitHub Wiki

I just wrote a long-ass history page on SageTV which also provides some good higher level architectural details. Hopefully I'll write some more detailed stuff about various aspects in the near future as well. Enjoy! (it's a fun trip down memory lane for the long time users)

I'm confused...did I let some profanity sneak into that page I wrote?

EDIT: Lol...now I see it.

Very cool read. I remember trying out v1 but the PC I had at the time couldn't run it (PII 450). So I wrote my own using VB and used XMLTV for guide data (when it was free) which used the Happauge software for playback/recording.

I did come back in around 2007 when I bought the SiliconDust HD tuner, once I had enough horsepower to run SageTV.

It would be neat if you added Dates when each major version came out.

Very interesting - thanks for that.

It might be interesting to also read the story on how some of our users came to SageTV. I had a process through TiVo, BeyondTV and MCE before settling on SageTV.

It's hard to believe it's been over five years since Google came into the picture.

Jeffrey,
Do you have a rough number of licenses that were purchased for each version?

Thanks for the wiki page. That was interesting.

Nope, don't really know. We probably sold something close to 10,000 overall...although I'm pretty sure the maximum number of EPG clients at one point was close to 15,000 (due to piracy).

So Jeff I enjoyed reading this something that caught my eye was you said you used studio to whip out UI's for other things...Is this still possible in the open source. I personally agree that studio is one of the fastest UI development platforms I have used, and would love to use to for some other things I do.

I don't think that I had realized that it wasn't even a two-year old product at that point. Oh how far things have come.

thanks for the history lesson, Jeff.

Yeah, it's still possible with the open source version. Mainly what I did with it was other quick one-off things since it's sort of like a live Java scripting environment.
