Network troubleshooting tools?

Thinking I might have some sporadic networking lagging issues and not sure if it is one of the switches I have or not. Power cycling the switches (main and 3 others in other rooms) sometimes improves it for awhile but comes back.

Networking is not a strong point for me but willing to learn.

Are there any tools to help troubleshoot networking issues?
Other than replacing the switches and then "wait and see", any tools to test them out?

Any help/guidance would be appreciated

Small net builder is a great site. Good luck.

I had a problem with packet loss on my network a while back. It was sporadic and really hard to track down. It did have symptoms similar to what you describe. I got lucky and found a bad switch by carrying my laptop to different locations on the network and pinging my router. Of course, I can't remember exactly what I did.

Good luck.
