check for upcoming recordings through API or some other way?

I'd like to restart SageTV sometime in the middle of the night but only if Sage is not currently recording and no upcoming recording(s) are about to start.
Has anyone else tried this?

I have a very large imported videos library and use 4 extenders. Every day or 2 SageTV uses a lot of memory and it makes it sluggish. Also the scan sometimes does not show all my imports which pisses off my wife. A restart of the SageTV application is usually required at this point. I'm hoping I can automate this somehow...

You could use the sagex remote services web api to perform the checks you need to see if anything scheduled.

The commercial detector plugin has the ability to check this kind of thing before starting a comskip job. You could look at it and see how it's doing things.
