Centurylink Prism

We've been on DirecTV with Sage for a long time, currently via a Colossus 2 (which is working very well, albeit with daily reboots)

Centurylink is pushing deals on their Prism TV service bundled with 1G fiber internet which are interesting, at least on a price basis with the usual caveat emptor on introductory promotional price expirations. If I could improve my picture quality and save money without giving up anything else I would consider switching. Heck if I could get better quality without giving anything else up, I would be willing to pay a little more than I do today. Saving money is good, but quality is king.

Has anyone integrated Prism with Sage via HD-PVR or Colossus?

What's the general consensus on best picture quality? I view on a 105" screen so compression artifacts show up loud and clear when present. I know I lose some quality with the Colossus encoding, but what about the source...who offers the highest bitrate/quality today across Comcast, DirecTV, and Centurylink Prism?

Channel changing would have to revert to the USB-UIRT or other IR blaster I guess rather than the ethernet changing we use on the DirecTV STB. Any other potential gotchas of trying a switch like this?

Presuming there is a set top box with component out, all should be good. Do you know anyone using CenturyLink Prism? If so, you could look at the outputs of the box.

I don't have a Colossus but I have used an HD-PVR. If your using the HDMI connection on your Colossus you should also be good. Worst case with HDMI is HDCP handshaking, which can be stripped out if need be.

looks like CenturyLINK Prism use Motorola VIP 1200 based on a video from their website.

If you GOOGLE Motorola VIP 1200 you can look at the specs.

These boxes have both HDMI and Component out. It also has ethernet, S-Video, and USB 2.0, as well as coax.

gee, how convenient it would be if we could change channels using the ethernet ports or USB port on any cable box. or even capture video streams over ethernet ......... I am aware some are using ethernet for channel changing with Direct TV boxes.

Why, this could replace firewire. Sorry, I am going off topic with wishfull musings.
