Question Need Expert Opinion On Drivers/Decoders

So I've got V9 up and running and I'm having an issue with screen freezing on transitions of live shows (see other thread). That prompted me to take a look at the drivers that I have configured and to determine if I should change them. Here's what I've got now and if anyone has suggestions on changing anything I would appreciate the input....

Video Renderer: EVR
MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter: Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
H.264 Video Decoder Filter: Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
VC-1 Video Decoder: Default
Media Player for non-MPEG Files: DirectShow
Audio Renderer: Realtek Digital Output
MPEG2 Audio Decoder Filter: SageTV MPEG Audio Decoder
HD Audio Decoder Filter: Default
DVD Video Renderer: EVR
DVD Video Decoder Filter: Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD9)
DVD Renderer: Realtek Digital Output
DVD Audio Decoder Filter: SageTV MPEG Audio Decoder

Can you elaborate on the extent of the screen freezing? Is it just a quick glitch that occurs between live shows, or does the screen freeze until you do something to resolve it?

Happens on transition of a live program. To recover I have to skip fwd or back otherwise it will just stay frozen.
This thread sums it up...

I also have experienced the freezing during the transition of live TV between programs. Generally, I only view live TV in the morning for a short time (news and weather). Sometimes the option is to kill the client and re-start it, other times I can hit REW and let it play through.
It isn't a consistent issue for me. Some mornings it all works just fine (no freeze between program A and the following program B on the same channel).

It has not been a big enough annoyance to me to do that much about it, so far.

I have had this issue using LAV filters as well as the Arcsoft decoders (the old ones that came with Arcsoft Media extreme as part the HDPVR package) and possibly with the Microsoft decoder as well. I suspect this is not decoder related but have no real proof one way or the other.

it "feels" like the buffer that Sage is using when your viewing Live TV is being over ran and the viewing is too close to the end when the transition occurs and then it freezes and doesn't recover.

Are you using the nvidia 9600 in your sig as the video card?

The issue may be that your card doesn't support much in the way of hardware acceleration. Your CPU is having to do most of the decoding. H.264 is supported, but apparently that's it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_PureVideo

That could be part of the problem. Do you have another PC to test on? Maybe with newer video hardware?

The thing is that there was no problem with V7. The freezing happened after upgrading to V9.

Well, in another thread it seems that a number of folks have this issue.

I've got v9 client installed on a very powerful PC. Let me do some testing to see if I see the same behavior.

Well nothing out of the ordinary at the 30 min mark. Will report back at the hour mark.

OK. I had a freeze at the hour mark, but it isn't any different than on my Android client. It stops for 10 seconds then continues without issue. Not sure why it happens, but it isn't specific to any of my devices.

Would be nice to see it just continue to play though...

There will be some gap if you don't have all the fast switching options enabled...and the gap will be bigger if using something like the HDPVR where it pauses before starting recording to avoid crashing issues. There should of course be zero gap at all if you are using fast switching.
