Recording Library behavior Changed?

Back in the day (1.4 and vs beta) if a network drive disconnected for 5 seconds, sage would freak out and you would lose ALL your files in your library for good.

Now, it seems like I can't get rid of old ones. I removed a hard drive and formatted it, and now I can't get rid of the 200 shows in my library unless I do it 1 by 1. How do I tell it as a 1 time thing to delete all this dead junk?

The refresh media library button doesn't work? This used to bother me a lot playing dvds but the refresh button 'fixed' it. I still don't know why sage can't detect file system changes on it's own.

Nope, it says refreshing media, but it still lists 300 some gigs of shows. Under system info it says "Hard disk used, 30 gigs, hard disk available 300 gig, total show time: 4 days"

30 gigs = 4 days of show time, wow.

If the disk (drive letter/UNC path) where the files used to be is no longer accessible, then the files will not be removed because Sage cannot see that they are not there...

If you remove the old Video Library directory in setup/detailed/General, then they should be removed at the next refresh...
Alternative, make the disk letter/UNC path available so that Sage can see that the files have gone!

(please confirm that this works for you so that I can add a FAQ!)

nielm, You describe exactly how this works on my system. I write a lot of raw mpg files to dvd and play them in sage. I watch a show and then remove the disk. Until I put another disk in the drive, the last show will remain in the library listing. Once I put in a new disk and click refresh, the new show title appears.

Am I the only one who thinks this behavior is a bit odd? And why should I be responsible for refreshing directories? I thought computers are supposed to do this stuff for me.

It seems Frey chose between getting rid of the files immediately vs. never getting rid of them if the directory is not available.

I'm curious: Is the behavior being talked about for Library Import Directories only, or also for Video Directories. Thanks.

I mount my dvd drive in Imported Video Files. I understand the difference between wiz.bin logged content and external, 'i forgot the show info' content. Maybe we need a parameter that specifies a removable drive from a network drive from normal hd storage.

This wiz.bin/file system/show info sync issue is going to continue to cause problems until it's addressed. I want to stick in a dvd with an mpg file on it and play it. I could care less about the missing show data, that's in my movie library application. I just want to watch the show. Clicking some refresh button seems too geeky for me.

If i decide to quit burning dvds because a firewire hd is cheaper, how is sage going to handle content on sporadic mounts of different 300gb external drives? Right now I see a big mess.

Maybe if they could integrate the internet movie databases with sage...
