Java on Win 10: 32 or 64 bit?

I'm a little confused about what bitness of Java to use for a fresh Sage v9 install on a newly-built Win 10 64 bit box.

From what I've read, it seems like there are some plugins which don't work with 64 bit java. OTOH, I've also seen comments that 64 bit java is more stable when, for example, there are multiple client boxes pulling off the server at the same time.

I don't use any plugins (yes, not even comskip; I've gotten used to just jumping through the commercials, and every once in a while I like to watch some). I also have four HD200/300s in use. So I think I'm leaning towards 64 bit, and a large heap (the system has 16GB of RAM).

But I'd appreciate feedback.

As far as I know SageTV needs 32-bit Java on Windows (because of some 32-bit native exe/dll) - 64-bit Java is usable on Linux.

You might want to think about Linux as with Windows you are limited to 32 bit Java and 1GB of heap. On Linux you can use larger - I have my heap size set to 3GB which is overkill as I had a test where I connected over a dozen miniclients and didn't even hit 2GB of usage.

It is possible that someone will upgrade the SageTV core on Windows to 64 bit but no one has taken on that task as of yet. I finally gave up and switched to unRAID Linux.

Lol! Thanx for the suggestion. I did consider Linux for just that reason. But sage on Linux doesn't yet support powering down when idle, and running a server 24/7 where I live would cost $30 a month. So I'm being a cheapskate, and will have to live with only a one gigabyte java heap.
