Channel setup overseas (PAL)

I've been trying to install SageTV in Australia. It's seems like it's the PVR of choice for hardware encoders from various net chatter. The software installs without a hitch but I can't lock on to any channels properly. I assume the problem is because SageTV is designed for the broadcast system in the US. In Australia and many European countries, the channel is not locked to a particular frequency.

Is it possible to scan the various frequencies in sageTV (or even specify them as a registry entry etc)??

I tried flicking through the various channels and even got a reasonable picture on some channels (eg 197, 208, 228, 240, 306, 315, 324) but none with sound.

The channels are great using wintv2000 (autotune in channel suite) - the main channels are (30,33,39,42,60,63,66,69 in wintv2k)

I'm using an Athlon XP 1900+, WinXP Pro SR1, PVR350 (PAL B/G), SageTV beta 1.3.5

Cheers,

Billy

Try setting your mmc/country_code in the properties file as indicated by the table below, let us know if that helps at all. Also, give SageRecorder a try and use its AutoTune feature, I've made some changes to how this works lately in an effort to help support international users better.

Thanks for your quick reply!!!!
I saw a similiar post in the sagerecorder discussion group, so I tried 61, F_UNI_CABLE, F_OZ__BROAD, PAL_B, // Australia in the sagetv properties file.
It improved the tuning in two ways
1. Better picture
2. Channel numbers now between 1 and about 50 tune (rather than in the 200-300 range)

However..... No audio, except on channel 18 which tuned white noise for the video and audio

I think I read somewhere on the net that the audio offset is 5.5Mhz in australia. Could this be part of the audio problem.

I'll try SageRecorders autotune and let you know how it goes.

UPDATE

I tried SageRecorder with autotune which worked well. I fiddled with the audio settings in setup and got sound working by changing to DirectSound. Problem solved. I'll try SageTV tonight.

Are there any plans to incorporate autotune facility into SageTV aswell?

Cheers,

Billy

SageRecorder's autotune should overlap into SageTV because it's part of DirectShow.

We'll add autotuning into SageTV soon since apparently it's needed to get the channels right internationally. Thanks for the valuable feedback.

I tried SageTV after autotuning in SageRecorder.

Bingo! The channels are tuned and we have audio.

So I guess it looks like autotune in sagetv would be valuable for international users.

Suggestions: it might be easier if one could set the country within the setup wizard rather than editing the properties file (from an international point of view) Just a thought.

Thanks again for your quick reply. Frey Technologies Rock!

Hi there,

I live in cologne, Germany with cable-services supplied by "ISH" and use SageTV and Sage Recorder on XP Pro, AMD2000 and PVR250 and use xmltv to import EPG-Data.

I followed all instructions and info in this forum and also copied 49, F_WEU_CABLE, F_WEU_BROAD, PAL_B, // Germany into sage properties but dont get satisying results with tuning the channels
Auto Tune just finds some 4 Channels and when tuning manually the tuner seems to have an offset and doesnt find the right channels.

With Hauppauge's WINTV2000 I find all channels in their appropriate place, so the pvr card seems to be working properly

Is there any way you could help me, I am quite desperate....

I live in Sweden and all my UPC cable channels in SageTV are offset from in WinTV. I had to find a few of them and could then manually change the channel numbers in SageTV.

______SageTV___WinTV

SVT1____20_______5
TV4_____21_______6
SVT2____22_______7
...
ZTV_____31______29
TV3_____33______31
MTV_____35______33

and so on.

Hi,

I live in Bulgaria and here the cable providers are using PAL_B/G for broadcasting. Some channels are SECAM and some channels are even PAL_B/G for picture and SECAM for sound. I guess cable providers can't agreee on one standard after all. It would be a lot easier for us, the users. My question is, how can I tell SageTV to tune correctly in this situation? Is there a way to tell it that picture is on one freq. and the sound is on another? I used to use DScaler before and there was a way to configure each channel to use whatever system you want, same goes for sound too. Any help will be greately appreciated.

Exclamation Greece has PAL_B only

This list has an error and it is very bad because many programs using it:
Greece is using only PAL B and there is no official SECAM transmition in the country.
Can anyone correct this error at the list so it won't circulate with the wrong info?
Thank you.

The links from nielm in this post are probably more up to date.

FYI In Sage 6.3, Latvian video standard is incorrect. i.e. setting to 371 leads to a black & white picture.

The workaround (until Sage fix this properly), is to set the country to Lithuania for which the video standard has been correctly defined and also works for Latvia.

Just in case anyone else was struggling with this...
