NVDVD crashing Sage and issues
I recently tried to use NVDVD 3.0 with VMR9 rendering in Sage
but I did something different than normal I disabled hardware acceleration in the NVDVD decoder when I went into Sage and tried to use the nvidia video decoder with VMR9 rendering SageTV crashes immediately I went opened NVDVD 3(did not change anything) then restarted Sage I tried it once more just to make sure that was the issue and started to play a recorded show this time after opening nvdvd the video played for a second but then I tried to change the volume and crash I was wanted to warn anyone using nvdvd and to see if others were having this same issue with hardware acceleration on in NVDVD Sage is fine also I tried to use nvidia video without hardware acceleration but this time with overlay although this did not crash Sage like VMR9 did I got black bars on the sides of the video after fast fowarding I am going to foward this to Sage but all other decoders seem to work fine without hardware acceleration/DXVA and this is second time nvDVD has caused Sage to crash (using the nvidia audio decoder and fast fowarding does it as well) here is the log |

Hey, I have been using NVDVD 3 for a few days with VMR9 and hardware acceleration on and I have not had any problems as of yet. Overlay works fine too.

Since NVDVD 3.0 is still in beta, have you tried it with 2.55 to see if the same thing happens?

do not use the audio decoder from nvidia that will stop that JUC the problems I mentioned were for hardware acceleration off in NVDVD not on I have no problems when it is on it is the fact that it crashes Sage that bothers me mlbdude no, not yet I did not think about that but I assuming it will be no different cause it was 2.55 that originally crashed Sage for me when using the nvidia audio decoder and not the beta version 3 (I am sure that it crashes SageTV as well when using that audio decoder but never tried ) I will try it out though |

I've always used NVDVD 3.0 with hardware acceleration off and do not have those issues. I also use it this way with ffdshow.

1) Unless you were on the official Forceware Beta, the origins and quality of the Forceware that you are using are quesionable, and if I correctly remember version numbers I've seen quoted, the "unofficial" ones are several revs behind the latest ones Beta testers had.
2) I used nVDVD 3 (same ones as you kny AFAIK) for weeks, with ffdshow (so no DXVA) and VMR9 w/o a hickup. Audio decoders varied but included, nVDVD 3, Sonic, AC3Filter. Of course since the re-install, I've been quite happy with my simple Sonic Cineplayer DXVA -> VMR9 config. |

Just wanted to post a picture to make sure we are all on the same page
also the crashing was after opening the NVDVD decoder properties from the taskbar and changing some settings and overlay worked fine without the black bars in version 2.55 Last edited by kny3twalker; 07-18-2004 at 10:24 PM. |

I was using NVDVD 2.55 for video and it was causing my htpc to randomly reboot. I dunno if it was DxVA related, and I ended up switching to cyberlink video decoder.

I've got it on my MCE machine and it seems to work fine on there, I'm going to try it on the Sage box tonight or tomorrow and I will report back my findings .
Right now I'm using WinDVD 6's decoders, and have had some spotty results (some odd hangups and other oddities), not sure if it's the decoder or something else though.

my DXVA settings and deinterlace settings are default in Sage
I thought it was working fine with just 2.55 and then opened the taskbar icon and started changing stuff in there and crash and it happened more than once with hardware acceleration box checked I never had any of these problems Cyberlink is ok but a little buggy from my past use I like the audio decoder alot for DVDs |

I suspect a similar thing happened to me. The NVDVD problems started only after I fiddled around with some of the settings. I haven't had the time to go back and try ot fix it, so I just switched to cyberlink.
The cyberlink decoder works fine, but I think NVDVD was slightly better.

well powerDVD retail does not support VMR9
and I am only having issues with VMR9 rendering using NVDVD without hardware acceleration my guess is that you used the audio decoder if thats the case it was your problem oh and by the way someone asked before what version this was of the beta I was using it was the leaked version so it must be 3.0.5 or something |
