Talking Dumb Question from a Newbie

OK ... Got my SageTV Server up and running great! I have tried the Client software on my office PC and even my laptop and .... it's ALL Good! Blows me away to watch live cable TV from a wirless laptop on battery. Spent the first 10 minutes running around showing others how I can watch TV while walking around the house!! Very cool.

So, here's my dumb question. In order to watch LiveTV through the client while the server is recording I need to install another TV card. I am using Hauppauge 250's. So, if I install it in the server, do I need to split my cable feed to connect to both cards or is the coax connection to the one card suffice? If not, I presume I will need to plan ahead, getting a splitter to accomodate additional cards. I am considering getting one or two Hauppauge USB TV Adapters.

Any thoughts from the experts?

Thanls very much ....

Each tuner needs its own connection to a source, so you have to connect the cable to each one after splitting it.

Thanks Opus4 .... .... I figured as much ....

I also read - somewhere in this forum I think - that you can tap in to a tuner card on another system on the network. Is that true? If I put a card in a client PC and hook up a source can it be shared with the tuners in the server??

THANKS Again ....

Yes, you can put a tuner in a networked PC & then use SageTVRecorder to make use of it -- SageTV (server) will control it & tell it what to record. So, you would end up with SageTV on the server, and on the networked PC: SageTVClient to view shows & SageTVRecorder to make use of the networked tuner.

On the SageTV Configuration page, see Setting up Network Encoders.
