My guess...a permissions issue on execution. Try running the installer as admin

Placeshifter works fine for me under W10 and I don't use Administrator accounts. I can't remember if I ran the installer as Administrator, though. That is a good thing to try. Microsoft recommends that you don't run as Administrator, but things even from "big" names like nVidia and Oracle don't always install right, (and e.g. nVidia graphic drivers and JAVA--although the latter seems fixed now--you have to log in as an Administrator and not just "Run As...")

Of course all that is moot if your account is an Administrator...

The installer error is failed to elevate hence my guess on permissions.

I have never had an issue installing Placeshifter so not sure what else to suggest.

I invoked Avast's "Turn everything off for 10 minutes" option, and the install went A-OK.

I think it was something with Avast's file scan during the install.
