Starchoice Receiver serial control

Is there anyway now or in the forseeable future that we could control our starchoice receivers with the serial cable? All the better starchoice receivers have the serial port connection. I've tried the DTV setup with no luck, must be a different protocol, but i would have no idea how to get it to work on my own.

What is the possibility of this happening? Or do i have to fork out the money for a USB-UIRT?

Sorry Buddy, unless you’re smart enough to figure out the pin outs of the serial port and can get it working, I think you may be hooped. I’m not aware of an American counterpart that uses the same equipment as starchoice, so I don’t assume there are too many people in your boat. I have a USB-UIRT controlling a Motorola DCT and a BEV 3100 and it works great most of the time. I have had a couple of missed recordings but maybe only 1 out of 300. My only complaint is that it takes about 4 seconds to change a channel. That means you can't really surf, but with guide information do you really need to?

Thanks for the help. Looks like i'll be buying a USB-UIRT, wth starchoice it takes that long to change channels anyhow, but the sage guide is quick so it shouldnt be any slower than without the HTPC
