Miniclient mkv video stuttering

I have been testing the mini client on various Android streaming boxes and am having issues with my BD/DVD rips playing smoothly. I first tried on a Gen 1 Amazon Fire TV and then on a Shield TV (2017). In both cases I'm connected via hard wire and have tried various settings and players. (EXO/ijkplayer) The best I can get is the video plays in slow motion. Sometimes I get choppy audio and sometimes I get no audio. This happens for both H264 and MPEG2. All ripped using Make MKV. Also all my rips are using AC3 5.1 audio only.

I have also tried using Kodi. (17.6) MPEG2 videos play ok. But the H264 mkvs play the same as they do in the mini client... I have tried Mediacodec (Surface) = off and Mediacodec = on as well as both off but nothing seems to work

However using a HD300 extender all my movies play smooth.

I would appreciate if anyone who has mkv BD rips playing smoothly in either Kodi (Android) or via the mini client to help. What am I'm doing wrong? Thanx!
