Problems with TMT after January 2018 Windows updates?

I tried to watch a Blu-Ray movie last night and found that TMT wouldn't start.

I currently run Windows 7 and I use TMT6 to watch movies. I also have TMT3 and it seems to have a similar issue.

After removing the Jan 18 Windows Updates I was able to get TMT6 working again. I also unistalled and re-installed TMT6 more than once.

I suspect it is update KB4054518, but it may also include KB4056894. The 2 .Net updates don't seem to be in conflict with TMT.

I had this issue on 2 different machines, 1 is a fairly recent Intel NUC and the other is an AMD based HP from a few years back.

Although TMT is no longer supported, I still use it weekly. Apparently, it may be time to move on.

I wasn't of the impression that TMT used .Net. Maybe the Meltdown mitigation code affected it? I'm curious if Cyberlink PowerDVD still works on that same computer.

When I started looking into what the issue might be and suspected it was a recent Windows Update, I started to remove one update at a time and then tried to run TMT. I didn't know for sure if TMT used .NET or not so on the first go around the .NET updates got removed as well but it didn't make a difference.

When I started on the second machine, I started with the Updates I removed from the other machine (KB4054518 & KB4056894) and left the .NET updates alone. Unfortunately, I removed both updates together so I am not completely sure which one is the culprit.

I presume a lot of folks have moved away from TMT since it is no longer supported.

I don't know but the Meltdown & Spectre issues ran through my mind while i was working on this.
