SageTV won't let me delete movies...?!?
Hi all,
I have many movies in the Imported Vidoe section. I'm trying to delete a movie after I watched it and I can't! I'm getting the delete option, I press it and nothing happens-the movie stays on the list. Trying to refresh the list won't fix it. I found out that I can not delete a movie I watched (and stopped watching...) even from another computer on the net - I get the error: A program is using the file.... - the file gets locked and never unlocked till I stop SageTV completely. Any one have any idea what's wrong? How can I unlock the files? Thanks, Oren. |

I think you may have to start viewing another before SageTV will release the old one.

realy strange.... |

same happens to me. Actually once I try to delete from Sage, it locks the file up so that the only way to delete the file in Windows is to quit sage firs.

I get the same problem. It must be a bug.

I have the same problem in imported video files. I dan't delete until I restart Sage. I really wish they would fix it, it is the only thing currently not working on my system.

Hi,
try using the stop key on the remote - if you go in setup / system information you'll see that the file is no longer mentioned in the currently watching entry. Then you should be able to delete the file. At least that is what I think that made it work after I tried about 300 other things at the same time to delete a file. carlgar's remark about playing another file first has the same effect of getting rid of the currently watching status of the to be deleted file. I have not tried the stop button, but I have tried playing another video in imported recordings and it does not enable me to delete the first video. Once you start watching a recording in imported video, the only way I have found to delete them is to shut down sage and restart it. I just had to restart sage in order to delete 6 imported videos that I had watched, but could not delete. I'll try the stop button, maybe it does something different.

The delete issue may not be a problem with SageTV. It might be an issue with WindowsXP, especially if the file you are attempting to delete is a DivX file.

I think they are divx files. I'll give this a shot too.

I just wanted to say this is definitely a BUG. I discovered it yesterday and was suprised to find a thread today about the same issue. Also it is definitely not limited to Divx files.
Here's what I did. I just finished building a brand new HTPC and installed a fresh copy of Sage v2 (this is the 1st time I've ever seen the v2 U.I). I then moved all my previously recorded MPEG2 shows to the new PC and executed "Refresh Media Library" function. After watching an "imported" show, it can't be deleted even though the UI gives you the option to execute the command. Sage locks the file and does not release the lock until you stop/restart Sage. This applies only to IMPORTED SHOWS AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN WATCHED. If you do not watch the show, the file doesn't become locked and you are able to delete it via the UI. Once an imported show is watched and becomes locked, it doesn't matter if you hit Stop, view a different show, or physically select "close file"... the file remains locked. Hell, I don't care if the "close file/hit stop/open a different file" thing did work. That's not an acceptable solution. File locking and file contention should NEVER be a concern for the end user. If the UI allows the user issue a delete command, then all file I/O stuff should to be handled transparently. |

I know their was a similar bug in the beta version with the sage recordings. The close file workaround worked until a fix was issued. I'm sure this will be fixed as well, hopefully in the next release.

I took the time to test this out, and was able to duplicate the problem.
The registry fix i alluded to earlier didn't help either. Sorry if I led anyone down a dead end path. It certainly appears that SageTV is not closing the file properly. Version 2.0.19 w/ mlbdude stv BTW: Great Job mlbdude! -mark |

does this have to be officially submitted as bug or does Frey just pick this stuff off the boards and run with it?

Frey doesn't always read the forums, so they can easily miss comments here. So, to be sure they see it, you really ought to submit a request for support for bugs. However, I sent them a link to this thread already.

I submitted this bug a fews days after the final release.. I dont remember exactly what I was told, but basically they said it was noted. I have never heard anything else about it.

Can anyone verify whether this bug has been fixed yet?
It isn't fixed in 2.0.20, which is what I'm using now. Does anyone know if it's fixed in 2.1? I've avoided upgrading because it seems like a lot of people have had problems with 2.1. |

Yes, it was fixed in 2.1.
