BINGO! It’s way easier to do as you say then it is to make ALL your Roku’s, Apple TV’s, Smart TV’, etc., show, cast, log, search, find, organize and bloody well actually PLAY a program. Last night I nearly threw something at a Netflix program for their intrusive “we’re going to force a promo down your throat instead of watching credits” nonsense. Even though I figured out how to avoid this, NOW I need a Netflix remote ready to go before show’s end.
I never thought I’d prefer TiVo / Sage / Cable over a la carte streaming, but the whole streaming concept is a billing, technical, logistics clusterf@#!

Comcast/Xfinity on-Demand is even worse. They put commercials in every on-demand show and disable the fast forward. To make it even worse, it is the SAME commercials during every break. By the fourth time, I have sworn to never purchase those products.

So, I use Play-On to record Xfinity on-demand, put it into SageTV and run COMSKIP on it.

I use Rogers here in Canada and sometimes their VOD for catchup is ok. In the past I used to use LIRC to control access to the VOD to record some things with the HDPVR and then run comskip to skip the reduced number of but annoying repeating commercials but now I'd rather just use the TV app. I don't think using one interface is worth the hassle.

However the spam from Amazon and Netflix on what to watch is quite annoying.

Try TubiTV on Roku or a PC, use a Pi-Hole to block the ads.

I actually meant email spam. I can live with a few ads but I hate missing the skip intro button.

I feel this the most. I want to pay for what I watch, but if you're going to make it this ridiculous, I'm just going to pretend your content doesn't exist and you will never see anything from me. Part of the problem is that it seems most people just put up with this crap instead of dropping the service. Companies are amoral. They will only change if they aren't profiting. You can only then hope they don't just assume everyone is pirating and that somehow that piracy is lost sales from people who never would have purchased the content in the first place.

Recently at my workplace, everyone in IS got reamed about not following a process that's not even remotely fluid. The process is very important, but because of how it is done, it's needlessly hard to execute. My take away was that instead of fixing the process so it's inviting enough that people will actually use it, the solution was to yell louder and threaten HR intervention. This feels a lot to me like how the studios look at piracy. If 1% of the students fail, it's the students. If 99% of the students fail, it's the teacher. Increased piracy should be a signal that they need to do better at making their content convenient for consumers.
