Brilliant - finally, an article which lets consumers know they’ve been screwed. I’ll have to read more from this source. Sure, paytv is available to subscribers through streaming devices. That's very true, but they should consider the consequences of this. IMHO this will increase piracy. I want to be able to record shows freely and use them as I want. But they are making it harder to do that. This will push people to look at other options and one of those options is to download shows that they can find on Bittorrent.

Precisely. As it is. the amount of rubbish one’s forced to sit through when you insert a purchased DVD is laughable. Hollywood, we BOUGHT the DVD. And then you penalize us for it....

It's not as bad as having to sit thru advertisements and trailers for upcoming movies when you see a movie at a theater. When I pay $10+ to see a movie in a theater, sitting thru 20 minutes of ads and trailers is ridiculous. Show a couple of trailers, and then start the feature...

I think it is the requirement to makes the apps work as one (via an open API or similar method - I'm not sure about the specifics). What this means is that the app selection will still be very fractured and broadcasters don't have to come up with a solution that is mulitplatform.

So broadcasters aren't getting rid of their apps (because the customer demands them), it's just that there will never be a "one solution works for all broadcasters" which was the point of that requirement.
