Sage Recording Extender problem

I'm running Sage V9 on a 64 bit Ubuntu server. Somehow I managed to screw up my previously working SRE plugin. When I try to connect to the livepvr server on my system I get the following error message:

Problem accessing /livepvrdata/events. Reason:

Could not initialize class groovy.lang.GroovySystem
Caused by:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class groovy.lang.GroovySystem

I'm pretty sure that I caused the problem by installing Java 11 and then reverting back to Java 8 (as my SJQ plugin didn't work with Java 11.) I did set the path back to my Java 8 installation but still the same error. Any suggestions?
