License Question

I have a SageTV Recorder license question. I thought about sending this to Frey directly, but thought others may have the same question.

I would like to have a PC with 3 encoder cards and have them setup for network use, So, I would need to have 3 copies of Recorder running.

Do I need 3 Recorder Licenses? Or is it one per PC?

Thanks,
Scott J

I am wondering the same but as it relates to SageTV (not necessarily the client or the recorder).

I want to have 2 "servers" that record shows using 2 tuners each and 4 client PCs around the house that connect to the servers. The client PCs are the only 'puters connected to TVs for human viewing. The "servers" sit in my media closet.

What licenses do I need to buy?

I guess I am confused as to how the $79.95 SageTV compares to the cheaper client & recorder licenses...

Sorry to be such a noob.

I think you may need to rethink your "2 servers" for SageTV, depending upon what you are trying to do. I would question why not 4 tuners in a single system? However, you can do what you want to with a 1 server and the other server would be 2 network encoders. This would require 1 SageTV license and 1 Sage Recorder license. You would a client license for each computer you want to watch. Your server would also be watchable.

The SageTV license is required and would be all you need for a single computer setup.
The Sage Recorder license is required for each computer that has a network encoder (PVR card). Sage Recorder is a stand alone program that can be used like a VCR instead of SageTV.
The Sage Client license is required for each additional computer that you wish to view or control SageTV from on your network.

So, to sum up, just in case it is needed:

SageTV: 1 license for 1 computer

SageTVRecorder: 1 license for the network encoder PC, optional depending on your configuration of tuners.

SageTVClient: 4 licenses for 4 clients, unless you also want to use it on the SageTVRecorder PC, in which case you would need 5.

There seems to be no point in having 2 server licenses, since the server (SageTV) will not talk to another server and you would end up with 2 distinct SageTV systems. It is better to stick to a single server and have all shows available through it.
