Sage TV Client running at 100%

Morning,

I have some client problems.

I have removed all tuners from the server, apart from one.

I can connect to the server from the client, but as soon as I choose to watch live TV, CPU usage jumps up to 100%.

The picture doesnt update smoothly, nor can I get back into the menu, or close sage without using task manager.

Any ideas why it should be running so high? The PC is a 2.8 with a 1GB of ram, so it anit that slowing it down.

Thanks,

Simon.

What kind of network are you using? I had this issue with a new router I bought, went back to my old one and all was fine.

I am using a linksys, running at 100MB.

I can stream video and music okay over it already.

Thanks for the quick answer!

Does it have any wireless access capability? For my new router I disabled that portion and that fixed it. It seems Sage is overly sensitive to latency or something.

My problem may also have been different. I could watch a recorded show just fine. But if I started LiveTV it would hang almost every time at 3 seconds with 100% CPU.

Wireless is disabled.

Sound like we are similar, as mine seems to hang after about 3secs.

Did you fix it?

I was able to fix it by either using my other router (non-wireless) or disabling the wireless portion of the new router. I suspect there are some "magic" settings in the router though that are causing some kind of latency that is the real cause.

damn. I have been using this router okay, so I was hoping that you found it was something else causing the problem.

Okay, I tried another router, same problem.

I have just made up a cross over cable, same problem.

Then I noticed that when the client has lost its conenction to the server, it was still running at 100%.

Now I am stumped.

Assuming that there may be a problem in your network (might just be a coincidence), can you try out different settings on your network cards? Or even different network cards.

Not too sure that I have another one.

Both systems are using the onboard ones.

The server is a GB card though, perhapes I should force it to 100MB

Just out of curiousity... You wouldn't happen to be running Win98 on the server machine?

Can you transfer files between the machine ok otherwise? If so, then I think we could rule out any networking issues.

What video card, decoder, and other settings are you using on the client machine?

VMR9 can use a lot of CPU and video card power. Try overlay instead and/or other combinations of decoders and renderers.

Just checked, can transfer files okay.

I have a FX5700 with 256MB, in a 2.8Ghz 1GB p4 system.

Codec is cyberlink (powerdvd) 5, quality fair (1GB).

I am using overlay.

I can do what ever I want with the client, so long as I dont watch live. If I do, it takes about 3 seconds and the cpu max's out.

and the next part went like this:

I have another sage server. So I connected the client to that one, and got the same problem.

So, I then went back to the original server, and installed the client on the second server. and all works fine.

The strange thing is that the second server is a slower machine than the one I was using as the original client.

By that, do you mean it will play previousely records shows ok and the problem is only occuring for Live TV and not if you try to play any other files?
