How to manually install the encoders from the CD
Hi,
I have been using the encoders that came with my DVD software for Sage. If I wanted to use the ones that came on the orignal PVR250 CD, how do I just install them please? Thanks, Simon. |

You mean DECODER, not encoder.
Just put the CD in the machine and it should autorun and give you a selection list where you select what you want to install. If it doesn't autorun, then find the setup file on the CD. |

I believe all you have to do is run the WinTV-PVR setup program. Then select the Install MPEG SW Decorders.
You can also go to the Hauppauge support page and get the WinTV video decoder update.

Carlgar, how is your stability these days? |

I still average about 1 soft lockup per day. I am now seeing a pattern of the freeze, I then sleep sage and try again, then a directshow error, then sleep sage and SageTV seems to work. I can live with the soft lockup. I have not seen a sage related had lockup in quite a while.

I don't have one, but I am running a Roslyn, 2 PVR-250's, and a USB2 and I only get a lock up maybe once a week. And that seems to have narrowed down to certain decoders I've been switching between. Then again, I didn't have any problems at all until I added the Roslyn (still thinking about pulling that thing back out and replacing it with a 250). |

I have been assuming that it is the 350. However, lately I have been looking at the system task as the source of the problems. The system task at times seems to take over the CPU. I wish I knew what the system task is supposed to do.

I've just had a google for an answer, and can not find one.

Have you disabled system restore? That makes backups every so often which could add to both CPU and hard drive load.
I feel that system restore is pretty useless and seldom works right anyway, so I've always turned it off right after a clean install. Windows Auto-update could be another one kicking in every now and then. I've changed a LOT of Microsoft's "brain dead" defaults right away to avoid the other disruptions in performance they cause. That's probably why I rarely have any lock up problems (since I turn off everything I can that doesn't need to be running in the background that might interfere). |

I just turned off the system restore.
I do use Windows auto-update, but I don't think it is a problem(except for the new constant reminder to reboot the system). I would turn off a lot of the defaults if I knew what they did. I am just too lazy to investigate them. Thanks for the suggestions

I'd disable auto update if I were you, I just don't trust it (I've installed drivers off windows update that hosed things), I'd rather manually do it. |
