NVDvD Decoder

I wanted to test the NVDvd Decoder so I downloaded a trial version of NVDvd. It did install the decoder. I can choose it in SageTV, but I get an error when trying to play any video.

Will the Trial version not work with SageTV? Is NVDvd Decoder the best decoder. Currently I am using the Default Decoder and have tried the InterVideo decoders, but my picture when running through my 250 looks like it is dropping frames. The video is not smooth at all. My 350 output looks great, but I get locked up with aggressively Fast Forwarding or Rewinding. I figure if I can get my 250 to look good enough, I will just use that until the FF lockups get figured out.

Thanks.

you need to register it first to use it outside of nvDVD

also try using overlay rendering

the picture should be much more fluid that way

I found the NVDVD decoder to be the best of the bunch. Sage actually looks like TV now!

People have had success setting the priority of sage to 'above normal' or 'high', using VMR9, although you do this at your own risk - it could mess other things up.

Alternatively you should go through your services and dissable anything that you dont need to be running to save on CPU cycles.

Re: NVDvD Decoder

I have exaclty the same issue !

The video is not smooth. I tried WinDVD 6 decoder, it's a little better but far to be perfect. I tried also ReClock without success.

Can you let me know if the quality with NVDvD is better ?

Well, I installed Sonic's decoder. It is an amazing difference compared to the default decoder. I can still see a difference between my 350 and 250, but it is darn close. Now, is it worth an additional $15.00 to get the NVDvd Decoder? Is NVDvd decoder any better than Sonic's. I am trying to get as close to the 350 output as posible until the FF lockups are fixed.

Thanks for your help.

Bob.

well thats different
and thats not the beta version 3 or 4

thats an OEM version
from newegg on CD and not a downoad version from nvidia

Nvidia stopped selling NVDVD quite a few months ago

but yes just so you know
it is the same as purchasing v2.55

there is no audio features missing from the OEM like most DVD programs

My kids record there programs at 1 gig per hour so they can stream them to their old PCs. Don't try to watch 1 gig recordings with Sonic. They look ok with the default decoder, but they are really choppy with Sonic.

Re: nvdvd decoder

When I use this decoder, the color looks good, but the picture shows in only about the middle third of the screen (ie, big black border on the top and bottom of the screen). This is on overlay. And when using Intervideo decoder (windvd 6 happ, version), set to source, the screen is fully used up, at the same resolution, setttings etc.

I have GF4 MMX440 and tried to adjust the settings but could not get it to fill the screen (if i use fill in sagetv the video become horrible). I have resolution at 800x600.

Searching the boards, i think i may have to adjust overscan setting? And reduce resolution (I tried this up but not down)? Any other ideas to get nvdvd to show on the full screen similar to the other decoders, and what settings to get best quality. Thanks

Sounds like a zoom setting. Change it in detailed properties. I had this problem long agowhen I corrected an canned aspect ratio (Aspect ratios just play with the zoom settings) so that it filled the screen previously.

Thanks guys,

I tried to reinstall last night, but no go there.

I will try to change zoom settings tonight. To be clear, do i go into detailed properties for NvDVD 3 in the taskbar (it does not have the full player, icon only shows when playing in sagetv-but i also had this issue with v2.55), in my NV video card, or in sagetv (not sure if there is an option)?

I also tried TvTool, but could not get that to work.

I have a bigger issue that i will start a new thread on.

No, Sagetv detailed setup. Under multimedia. You can change the aspect ratio mode and then adjust it with the aspect ratio settings. The stretch is really just zoom.

Just want to update all.

I put aspect ratio to 4:3 and aspect setting to 99% and that for the most part did the job. some black around the edges, but good. still trying to decipher if doing it this way rather than source is creating a bit of tearing (or streaking), but overall nice pic. not if i can stop the stutte.
