Minimum requirements for a Sage Server?
Does any know what are the minimum requirements for a sage server box? I'm going to use about 4 pvr250 cards and maybe 2 client systems.

The server requirements are minimal. The PVR250's handle all the encoding. The clients handle all the decoding. All you need to worry about is how much storage capacity you would like to have and whether you want a raid setup or not. Maybe having multiple network interface points would be nice for a server though. But, that's not really necessary with just 2 clients.

So are we safe to say at least a 1ghz cpu with 512 is enough?

Wow. Any good faqs on how to go about doing that? I am trying to put as much information together, so I can get a picture of how I want to do this. Thanks for asking the question Ravenray!

vicsrealms, there are a few members on here that are running something of this kind of setup. I'm just not sure what kind of specs they have. But the most part, I know there was some issues with running a pvr250 and pvr350 in one box. The new sage update might have fix this issue, but i'm not positive on it as I haven't ran two completely different cards yet and I haven't update my sage box as it's running fine on my system.
I don't think there will be problems with running all with the same cards with sage, but i have to be sure that what I'm doing will meet above the minimum requirements. Along with getting input from those that are running with a setup like this. I might be intuitive to see when the new pvr500 comes out and hope that sage will be able to support this. In any case, this might actually save me two more slots and I can go with a micro atx motherboard instead of full size motherboad. |

edit: However the PVR350 drivers still have some problems with the screen freezing for no apparent reason.

A server doesn't really have to be very powerful, especially if it is just doing recording & not playback. The hardware encoders do all the work for the cpu, so you just have to be sure your IDE interface is up to date enough to handle the data throughput.

Ok, so 1 ghz machine with 512mb is enough. You just gotta make sure your ide is udma 133 or 150 or what ever the highest throughput on ide controllers are then.
