Tuner Cards

I am new to the HTPC arena. I have been reading through these forums and I have noticed people talking about multiple tuner cards. What exactly is the point of multiple tuner cards? I am still doing research on building an HTPC system around december. Places like this are a great way to get information.

To be able to record multiple channels at the same time. I have 4 tuners in my server machine running SageTV and will have 2-3 in a networked machine running Sage Recorder that will bring me up to 6 or 7 shows that I can record at the same time.

Similar to having multiple VCRs (where I started), multiple tuners allow you to record more than one channel at a time, or even have back to back shows that overlap only because you added padding to them to make sure not to miss their beginnings or ends. This becomes very important if you like 2 shows (or more, with more tuners) that air at the same time.

Not only that, but if you use a client server model, each client watching an individual "live" show will require a tuner card... so if you had two clients watching "live" tv and wanted to record another show, you'd need three tuners...
