I few issues with the PV256T
I've had a chance to play around a bit with the Evaluation SageRecorder and I apologise in advance if these are obvious questions or I'm just being a bit dim ;-)
1) Does SageRecorder/TV support the remote control receiver built in to the PV256T as I could find no mention of it in the manual? 2) I'm using PAL and the Setup menu says it has detected PAL, but when I change the record bit-rate settings, it says it's NTSC [eg. Best (ntsc), Great (ntsc)]. Is this just cosmetic and it will in fact be recording PAL? I'm not sure see 3) below 3) When I timeshift, the audio is VERY badly out of sync with the video upon playback. I've never suffered from this problem with this MPEG card before. Is it because it's trying to record a PAL signal in NTSC so the video is falling 5 frames out of sync a second to the audio? 4) Will there be an option in the future to customise the bit-rate settings to personal settings? 5) The source box is greyed out, even though you can click it and change from TV to SVHS etc. Normally when boxes are greyed out, they can't be clicked. 6) How should I connect the audio? I've currently got the audio in to the PV256T. The audio out from that to the audio card on the M/B. I can hear the audio OK, but when I playback, I can still hear the live audio over the top and the mute button doesn't work at all, yet I can adjust the volume! If I mute the incoming audio, I can listen to what I have recorded. If I try to record muted, I obviously record no audio? Is the audio input on the PV256T simply a loop-through only? 7) Will the software support the hardware TV out on the PV256T or can we only watch TV on the PC overlay? I've not had chance to try that out yet. Other than the points above, the program was VERY stable and I've yet to get it to fall over or crash in anyway which is an excellent achievement for a first release. |

Ignore point 4 - I've found the relevant section on the support page ;-)

1 - Only SageTV supports the Provideo infrared receiver.
2 - You're right. There's no parameter files for PAL! I've attached a zip file with them. Extract them to your Program Files\Frey Technologies\Common\Parameters folder and they'll appear in SageRecorder. 3 - because of 2 4 - There already is, check out the support section of our website 5 - Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing as 'greyed' out because I can't reproduce this. 6 - You've got it connected OK. Go into Setup->Audio. Then for the "Live audio patch input" select the input of the sound card you've got the patch cable from the PV256 connected to. When you've got the right one; the audio will be muted appropriately. 7 - We don't plan to support the hardware decoder on the PV256T because it's only half-duplex. That means you can't use the decoder while you're using the encoder....which is a basic property of a PVR. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the excellent answers.
Still a problem though - your ZIP file was empty ! Do you think it would be possible to enable the PV256T TV out if you only want to play a file you had recorded several days ago and not record at the same time? The quality of the TV out is excellent and it would be nice to have the option to use it if you're not going to record at the same time. |

This zip file should work.
