Video Input on PVR-250-MCE
Just installed Sage 2.0.20 with a Hauppague PVR-250-MCE that I purchased as a part of the Frey Multi-Tuner bundle. Setup using the tuner went well and I tried out most of the features. Great!
Then I tried to enable either the composite video or s-video input to capture from a Reply box. Got nothing but a black/blank image. The source is active since the signal can be displayed just fine on a TV display. Tried setting up a second source selecting the PVR-250-MCE Composite input. Nothing displayed in view mode of channels of Live TV mode. Tried S-Video as second source. Nothing. I then tried removing all sources and setting up composite and s-video inputs as a solo source. Still nothing. One thing I have not been able to figure out is why the capture source options include 3 for composite (composite, composite-2, composite-3) and 2 for s-video (s-video, s-video-2). I am using the latest card drivers that I just downloaded from the Hauppauge site and installed under Windows XP SP2. |

![]() are you sure the card you are choosing as composite input is the correct card that you have connected to the cable box via composite? and do you have two cable boxes? and have you a way for sageTV to control the cable boxes via serial or USB UIRT? |

=>you can make and hauppauge has a prototype front panel that has the other composite and svideo inputs<=
Thanks for the info on the additional ports. I did not realize there is a header on the card. =>are you sure the card you are choosing as composite input is the correct card that you have connected to the cable box via composite? and do you have two cable boxes? and have you a way for sageTV to control the cable boxes via serial or USB UIRT? <= I tested the inputs with only one card installed. The video signal is coming from another AV device so no external cable box or tuner is involved. The good news is I installed the default Hauppauge Win-TV 2000 software and got the s-video input to work. The hardware is okay and I have a backup means to do the video capture if I can't get Sage working. Thank you. |

As it turns out I did get the s-video input working BUT only when I had only one card installed. After I tested a single tuner card using the s-video input via Win-TV 2000 software, I got it to work with Sage. I installed one card and then set up the tuner as one capture device and s-video as a second capture device in Sage. It worked. I learned two things: (1) It is far easier to capture video from another external source using Win-TV 2000 than Sage. (2) It seems my underlying problem is getting two tuner cards to work. I will open another thread for this issue. Thanks. |

Here is the FAQ I found after following the link provided by kny3twalker:
Q: My PVR 250/350 come with white header (10pin OEM or 13pin Retail) what is that for? and how make use of it. A: It a A/V header was designed to support an A/V panel for the front of a PC chassis which hauppauge plan to release later this year as an add/on device. Being some user have MiniATX case this may not be option for you due lack of 5 1/4 bay so hauppauge sent me the info on the pin out so you may build your own custom A/V panel from gound up. The onboard header supports audio and video inputs, which can be used as auxiliary A/V sources. In the standard configuration, this header is a10-pin, though the connector will also support an optional 13-pinconfiguration which adds Infra-red remote control support in positions J9-11through J9-13. Sources for a mating connector include the JST model 10NR-E series or the JST model XHP-10. J9 - 2.5mm locking header J9 - 10 Audio shield J9 - 9 Line In 2 Right J9 - 8 Line In 2 Left J9 - 7 Audio Shield J9 - 6 Composite 2 J9 - 5 Composite 2 shield J9 - 4 Chroma 2 J9 - 3 Chroma 2 shield J9 - 2 Luma 2 shield J9 - 1 Luma 2 |

Sweeeeeeet! Sorry, I haven't seen the link. Is it in this thread? The only one I see is the one to the .exe file.
Regardless, I'll get to work right away! Thanks. |

Actually I found the link in the properties of the picture kny3twalker provided:
http://www.shspvr.com/pvr_model/av_front_panel.jpg then searched the site for the FAQ. |

Here:
http://www.shspvr.com/pvr2_faq.html But unless I'm looking wrong, this pinout is not right, or not properly numbered. For example: J9 - 9 Line In 2 Right J9 - 8 Line In 2 Left These pins are both connected together. There is no way they can be seperate channels. It may be just a typo and they instead are the shields (grounds), and J9 - 10 Audio shield J9 - 7 Audio Shield are instead Left and right. I'll attempt connections and update with my results. |
