Virtualdub: packet synchronization error
Has anybody been able to open a SageTV generated mpeg2 file with virtualDub? I consistenly get a "packet synchronization error" when doing so.
Note I am fairly sure Sage does not mess with the packet stream, so it's probably safe to assume it came off the mpeg encoding chip in an "unsyncronized" fashion. Any ideas? Workarounds? Thanks Martin |

doesn't virtualdub only work with avi files... i've been looking at this tonight trying to do some nifty deinterlacing within it as shown here
http://www.100fps.com/ You need to use mpeg2dec3.dll and avisynth to frameserve mpeg2 in an .avs file which you then open with virtualdub... Virtualdub only works with mpeg1 files natively i believe |

Ah, that seems to clear it up. I have been using some .mpg files, bot those appear to be in mpeg-1 format.
Thanks Martin |

There is a version of VirtualDub which has forked from the original source and supports MPEG2 as default.
The best place to go for all the latest files for editing is www.doom9.org. They even have guides to explain how to cut the MPEG as well as having all the freeware programs to download. |

I believe the mpeg2dec with avsynth is the doom9 recommended way of doing things.. dunno about the forked version.. its not too complex to set it up.. there are guides... it varies how good it is ... its a bit too slow for my liking.. then again so is most recompression stuff
